Become A Material Master: 7 Tips To Improve Memory

Become A Material Master: 7 Tips To Improve Memory
Whether you're at a camp or at home preparing for fall game days, learning material is one of the top responsibilities for cheerleaders and dancers. If you struggle with bad memory, however, this can quickly become overwhelming as you sort through numerous band dances, cheers, and chants on the sidelines.

Since mastering this material is a requirement for any spirit squad, here are seven tips that will help you remember it faster.

Learn the words, then the motions

Just like at cheer camp, learn the words to each cheer first before learning the motions. Once you know the words and the tempo of the cheer, you will begin to pick up the motions faster.

Find a material friend

Get a study buddy and make learning material fun! You can feed off each other's motivation to knock out your material faster. If you are new to the squad or struggle with memorizing material, try partnering with a vet who can help teach you some tips and tricks.

Cheer is in session, take notes

Jot down notes for each cheer that will help trigger your memory if you get stuck. Write down the motions and counts for dances as well!

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

If you practice in front of a mirror, you can visualize the motions when you are out on the field.

Avoid cram sessions

Just like studying for a test, try not to cram all your learning into one night. Learn little bits at a time to help with remembering.

Eat memory foods

Leafy greens and berries are shown to help improve memory. Try adding these tasty treats to your lunch to help improve material retention.

Avoid distractions

Say goodbye to your iPhone and get practicing. Schedule out an hour to dedicate to learning material distraction-free and you will be amazed at how much you can accomplish.
