Mother-Daughter Coaching Duo: St. John Vianney & Montclair State University
Jayne and Staci Shalkowski are the ultimate mother daughter coaching duo from St. John Vianney High School and Montclair State University.
We are celebrating Mother's Day all month long because there are just so many inspiring mother-daughter duos to share. Honestly, they deserve more than just a day dedicated to them!
Jayne Shalkowski and her daughter, Staci, are the ultimate mother-daughter cheerleading duo, as they both coach at St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, NJ, and Montclair State University! They have coached together since 2010 at St. John Vianney and 2012 at Montclair State.
Jayne coached Staci throughout her entire cheerleading career.
Jayne has coached at St. John Vianney since 1979 and was Staci's high school cheerleading coach! When Staci graduated and moved on to college, so did Jayne as her coach.
Staci: When I graduated from college, there wasn't a hesitation before I accepted a position coaching at St. John Vianney with my mom. She has taught me everything I know about cheerleading, and I'm so lucky I get to continue learning from her. My mom is my role model, and I'm blessed to be able to coach with her!
Jayne: Coaching with my daughter is the culmination of a dream. I coached Staci since high school, and her skill enthusiasm and knowledge continues to impress me. She is my daughter and my best friend, so I love working with her and sharing my passion.

Staci: My first big moment as a coach was New Jersey High School States. My nerves were so high because this is what we worked for all year. They started calling every place out, and when they got to top three my mom grabbed my hand and whispered "I'm proud of you" to me. And at that moment nothing else mattered. Win or lose, that's what you really work for, to make your hero proud. It's a moment as a coach that I'll never forget, and we won!
Jayne: My favorite cheer coaching memory with my daughter is when we coached St. John Vianney at NCA High School Nationals. Hearing our name called first, getting our black jackets all while being able to share that with Staci, that was an amazing feeling.
The Shalkowski mother-daughter coaching duo knows the perfect recipe for creating champions.

She coached me all four years of high school, all four years of college, and my first year of graduate school. So, my cheerleading history has always been with my mom!

It's rare that you get to work with your mom but even rarer that you get to work with your best friend.
