It is not an easy thing to stand out in the crowd. At times, school cheerleading competitions can feel overwhelming with the vast number of athletes and teams that are vying for titles each season.  The ability to consistently find a way to break through and be among the cream of the crop is rare, but the Eaglecrest High School cheerleaders have it.

Often in the thick of the most crowded divisions, the Raptors have been making a name for themselves through the years with a drive and passion for excellence. At the 2019 UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship, they reached new heights, taking home the bronze in Medium Varsity, and the gold in the World School Cheerleading Championships. It was an exciting set of moments that were the result of building greatness for many years. This season’s Raptors will be looking to make their own path the glory by reaching new heights their own way.

While their recent success hasn’t guaranteed them anything this season, they have learned to have the faith in themselves to be right up there with the best in the nation.

Head coach, Alisha Chiarelli, was quick to acknowledge that the whole state of Colorado took big steps towards becoming a recognized powerhouse region. She told us, “Last year was a very big year for Colorado teams in general, and placing so well really sparked that hope that anything is possible for us”.

The goal for Chiarelli and the Raptors is not any one specific result or final placement. At the end of the competition day, she hopes that her athletes are finding success within their own efforts above all else. “Every season we strive to be better than what we were the year before. With historically high finishes last season, the goal will be for the athletes to feel that they’ve done the most that they can do to improve on those results.

“Ultimately, we want to go down to Nationals and put the absolute best that we can on the floor and have no regrets. As a coach, all you can really hope for is that each athlete reaches their true full potential”

The team came out swinging this season with impressive stunting elements, added tumbling skills, and some incredible pyramid moments that get your heart pounding. Watch for their incredibly quick pace and clean choreography. Oh, and be sure to catch their cheer, as they are widely renowned for having one of the loudest squads to hit the mat every year.

Last season was only the beginning for this team, as they have their sights set on accomplishing, even more, this year. No matter what you do, never count the Raptors out.
