Let The Battle Begin: Division lA Hip Hop

The HP Field House will be packed tomorrow as 16 teams will take the stage to battle it out for a national championship title in Division IA Hip Hop.

Each year the fight for the top spot in this division becomes even more intense and 2020 will be no different.

Since the early 2000s, except for 2015 and 2019, the top 5 teams in Division lA Hip Hop have always been, in no particular order, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, the University of Memphis, Louisana State University, The University of Cincinnati, and the University of Kentucky.

Over the past decade, the University of Nevada Las Vegas has earned four Division lA Hip Hop National Championship titles, in 2013, 2016, 2018, and again in 2019. The back-to-back UDA College National Champions have returned to defend their title and Head Coach Brandi-Lynn Slade told Varsity TV to “expect the unexpected.”

The University of Memphis is a powerhouse program in Division lA Hip Hop and the Tigers claimed second in 2019. Memphis is known for delivering a powerful routine that is full of tricks and surprises.

The Tigers hold 14 UDA College National Championship titles and you can expect big things from them again this weekend.
