Big things are happening up North, and it’s important for everyone around the world to take notice. As all star has evolved throughout the globe, Canadian cheerleading has been one of the most visible leaders of the progress. Each season, teams from Canada have smashed the expectations. In 2019 alone, Canada took home four World Championship titles and multiple teams finished their season on the podium.

Canada has proven to be a force in global cheerleading. Up until this point, however, there has never been a Worlds bid event where two Full Paid Bids were given out. This weekend, that is about to change.

It is an exciting time for Canadian cheerleading as ATC’s Feel the Power East competition is bringing two Full Paid Bid opportunities to Ontario for the first time in history.

Alli Moffatt, Owner of Cheersport Sharks and Coach of the four-time World Champion Great White Sharks, told us how they have been waiting for this moment for a long time.

“I’ve watched tremendous growth in our market in Canada for years. So many amazing teams making huge waves at Worlds year after year.”

She has been a big part of the development across the nation that has been monumental.

Moffatt told Varsity TV how she was thrilled to see the first single Full Paid Bid events come to Canada on the Western side, and then to Quebec. Now in 2020, the first-ever opportunity for two Full Paid Bids in a single event has finally come within a distance of her program, and it means everything.

“I so wanted my kids to have the same opportunity – after years of going to Worlds on a Partial Paid Bid and bringing home 4 World Championships, I just feel like we deserved that opportunity and so did our market.”

As the country continues to produce programs that are rising to the success previously only seen by U.S. teams, the opportunities are beginning to level out, starting with this competition.

Events with multiple Paid Bids on the line are common in the United States, and a weekend like this may seem very ordinary from that perspective. However, the programs in Canada do not take this weekend lightly, as it is genuinely a historic moment in the nation’s All Star history.

Lisa Aucoin, of Spring CDT, posted this message that truly exemplifies the magnitude of this weekend’s FTP event:

“This year… for the 1st time our team history we are eligible to compete for a Full Paid Bid that is being offered by Varsity All Star Canada. This is not only a HUGE opportunity for our athletes but an incredible validation of how far cheer has come in Canada and how our industry views our country.”

As All Star continues to develop worldwide, this is an extremely important marker for where the industry is, and where things are headed. Moffatt also added in her sincere gratitude saying, “the chance to compete for a Full Paid Bid is something I’ve hoped for, for such a long time, and I’m so thankful that day is here – THANK YOU ATC!”

As much as this event will be one to be celebrated for its history-making movement, there is some ferocious competition to keep an eye out for. Highlighted by reigning World Champion programs Cheersport Sharks and Flyers Allstarz, there will also be a number of Worlds medalists such as PCT Cobras, and ACE Athletics. There are plenty of other formidable programs from both Canada and the United States in the mix that will ensure that this is a competition you will not want to miss.

Make sure you follow along and tuned to Varsity TV to see who will take home these coveted historical Paid Bids at Feel the Power East 2020.
