The Coastal at the Capitol Grand Nationals returns to National Harbor, Maryland, and the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center again in 2024, and you don’t want to miss a minute of the excitement!

Since 1999, Coastal Cheer & Dance has been putting on regional events up and down the East Coast, giving competitors the stage to showcase their skills and talents – from one-day events to the organization’s premier Coastal at the Capitol Grand Nationals. 

This is your chance to watch your favorite Division I and Division II all-star cheer and dance teams compete on stage, while hoping to secure points to The League and a bid to one of the end-of-season championship events!

What To Know About The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center

The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center is located 7 miles from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, approximately 32 miles from Washington Dulles International Airport or 42 miles from the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, but it’s also very drivable from a handful of major cities on the East Coast.

Gaylord National also is minutes from downtown Washington, D.C., so there will be no shortage of things to see and do when there’s time away from the competition.

When it is time to get down to business, however, the property has everything for a one-of-a-kind experience: more than 540,000 square feet of event space, 94 event rooms, 101 breakout rooms – and it recently underwent a $64 million renovation that includes a grab-and-go eatery, interactive sports bar and a steakhouse.

The Maryland Ballroom features more than 31,000 square feet of space, while the Potomac Ballroom is 50,000 square feet and includes a theatrical stage, dressing rooms and more. 

The property boasts a calendar full of annual events, including the upcoming cherry blossom season, which gives guests a chance to celebrate Japanese culture and all things cherry blossom, or just stroll along the waterfront to enjoy the beauty of 200 cherry trees. 

Will the trees have begun blooming when the cheer and dance teams are in town? Only time will tell!

If they’re not ready, there are many other things nearby, such as National Harbor, Capital Wheel, Tanger Outlets, Topgolf and so much more.

The League by Varsity All Star

The League by Varsity All Star is the official ranking system for the sport of All Star cheerleading, changing the conversation from “Who won the weekend?” to “Who ranks at the top this season?” 

Every team who competes at a Varsity All Star Event this season will be included in The League by Varsity All Star. Team rankings are determined by the Points System displayed here. At each Varsity All Star event your team completes, your team will earn points based on the assigned event and placement point value. 

At the end of the season, your top 5 Varsity All Star event scores will be used to calculate your final rank. In total, 120 winners will be recognized from 1st – 3rd place across each region. One champion will be crowned in each of the 5 regions across the 8 eligible divisions, meaning 40 champions will be awarded in total. Champions will win cash and prizes!
