What To Know About The Georgia International Convention Center

When the CHEERSPORT Atlanta Classic returns to College Park, Georgia, and the Georgia International Convention Center in 2024, the city and venue both will be familiar to some competitors, while newcomers are in for a treat.

The first thing they may notice is the ease of travel, especially for those who may be flying in.

The convention center is less than a mile from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The airport actually is so close to the GICC that participants and guests can get to the venue by car or by the free ATL SkyTrain, as the two locations are connected.

Once at Georgia’s newest and second-largest convention center, visitors will see more than 300,000 square feet of space, more than 7,000 nearby hotel rooms and top-of-the-line accommodations and technology.

Check out this virtual tour of the facility and a unique look at the whole area.

The fine folks at the GICC also operate the Gateway Center Arena, a 5,000-seat venue that hosts sporting events, concerts, shows, graduations conventions and more.

The Gateway Center Arena is the home of the Atlanta Dream, a professional women’s basketball team and the College Park Skyhawks, the G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks.

But wait, there’s more!

For anyone who might be in town early, the Skyhawks will be playing the Cleveland Charge on March 1 at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Then, on the afternoon of March 3, depending on when cheer teams are competing, of course, they may want to sneak over to the arena to see the Skyhawks take on the G League Ignite.

Things To Do In The Atlanta Area

With a history that spans almost 200 years, the Atlanta area certainly has enough stories to tell and places to see to keep the most enthusiastic buffs of American or Southern history entertained.

At the same time, the ATL is a booming modern city with plenty of things to keep the entire family occupied.

Atlanta has a zoo, aquarium, gardens, galleries, many professional sports teams – it’s even the headquarter city for CNN (news channel) and the Coca-Cola Company. Tour of both HQs would be great additions to any agenda.

Still, there are museums that celebrate the long history and culture that began in the 1830s, when the area was connected to the Midwest via railroad.

As the host of the Summer Olympics in 1996, Atlanta received many updates and new facilities, while the area also became a hub for Delta Airlines.

When it’s time to grab some lunch or dinner, don’t miss the Southern BBQ, fried chicken, sweet tea, Brunswick stew, pecan pie and other delicious Southern fare. And, remember – Georgia is the Peach State, so keep an eye out for all the ways the locals can delight you with the tasty state fruit!

Those are just a few of the amazing things.
