What To Know About The Central Bank Center
The 2024 JAMfest Lexington Classic will be held at the Central Bank Center in Lexington, Kentucky, as part of an exciting weekend of cheer and dance action.
The venue is one of four busy properties managed by the not-for-profit Lexington Center Corporation and will be bustling with competitors and supporters in town for the JAMfest Lexington Classic and the UCA/UDA Bluegrass Regional.
The properties included in the quartet of venues are the Central Bank Center, Rupp Arena (the home of University of Kentucky men’s basketball and located inside the Central Bank Center), Lexington Opera House and Triangle Park, with the Central Bank Center and Rupp Arena being a highlight of the downtown Lexington experience.
While it looks like cheer competitions might be the biggest game in town, the true king of the Bluegrass State is the University of Kentucky men’s basketball, which has helped put the Central Bank Center and Rupp Arena on the map. The 19,000-seat venue is named in honor of longtime Kentucky basketball coach Adolph Rupp.
Though hoops action does fill the seats each year, basketball isn’t a year-round thing. That said, the venues usually are busy with other kinds of games, concerts, shows and events.
The Central Bank Center, specifically, has a history that began in the 1970s, though a recent $300 million expansion has it on the cutting edge. It includes 100,000 square feet of exhibition space, 16 meeting rooms, an additional 11,000 square feet of event space and a ballroom that’s more than 24,000 square feet.
The property’s prime location in downtown Lexington makes it close to 1,200 hotel rooms, 75 restaurants, theaters, shopping, museums and galleries, the distillery district and an exciting Lexington nightlife.
The Lexington Opera House, which was built in the 1880s, regularly hosts shows and concerts.
