The 2025 Double Down Birmingham Nationals is the lone event on this season’s Double Down Championships calendar, but it will be packed with fun for All Star cheer teams from across the Southeast and beyond.

The event will take place at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama, and all of the action Jan. 11-12 will be broadcast live on Varsity TV!

At the Double Down Championships, teams get multiple opportunities to post the highest possible scores they can. They’re even encouraged to upgrade the difficulty of their routines without having to fear getting a lower score.

What To Know About The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex

Double Down Birmingham Nationals heads to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2025, allowing competitors to kick off the new year with a little Southern hospitality.

The BJCC is a one-stop opportunity for the teams to compete, dine, enjoy the Uptown Entertainment District, or check out historic Birmingham. Or all of the above.

The complex includes two exhibition halls and three entertainment venues, including the state’s largest arena and concert hall, and Alabama’s largest hotel (757 rooms).

The multi-purpose Protective Stadium is home to the University of Alabama at Birmingham football team, the Birmingham Legion FC (professional soccer), the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions (professional football,) and the annual 76 Birmingham Bowl (college football).

The recently renovated Legacy Arena welcomes concerts, shows, and sporting events and can seat 18,000. It’s also home to the Birmingham Squadron of the NBA G-League, who will be in town and welcoming the Capital City Go-Go on Jan. 10-11.

The BJCC Concert Hall & Theatre also is versatile. The Concert Hall can seat more than 2,800 guests for concerts, shows, and productions of all kinds. The Theatre is more intimate and can seat 1,000.

In late 2022, Birmingham introduced City Walk BHAM, an outdoor space that serves as a meeting place for guests and locals alike and helps celebrate and connect many aspects of the city. 

The area includes art, lighting, food trucks, a skate park, a playground, pickleball courts, an amphitheater, a roller rink, and areas to socialize and have a meal.

With the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex being so robust, there may not be a need to leave the area, but then you’d miss many of the magical things about the Magic City. 

There are so many important places and landmarks in Birmingham. There are museums and galleries celebrating the iron and steel foundation of the industrial town or the role the area played in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s.

The League by Varsity All Star

The League by Varsity All Star is the official ranking system for the sport of All Star cheerleading, changing the conversation from “Who won the weekend?” to “Who ranks at the top this season?”

Every team that competes at a Varsity All Star event this season will be included in The Varsity Cheer League.

Team rankings are determined by the points system displayed here. At each Varsity All Star event your team competes, your team will earn points based on the assigned event and placement point value.

At the end of the season, your six best Varsity All Star event scores will be used to calculate your final rank.

In total, 128 winners will be recognized from first to third place across each region. 

One champion will be crowned in each of the five regions across the eight eligible divisions and two League 6 conferences, meaning 42 championships will be awarded in total. Champions will win cash and prizes!
