Aloha Grand Nationals is one of more than a dozen events on the Aloha Spirit Championships calendar for 2025, and the organization is slated to bring the festive competitions to major cities from coast to coast.

This week, as part of a five-event month, cheer teams from Division I and Division II will say aloha to Phoenix and the Phoenix Convention Center, a venue that has been a regular host of Aloha Grand Nationals.

Varsity TV will be there to provide live coverage of the event, which will take place March 8-9.

Since 2001, Aloha Spirit events have been bringing a bit of Hawaiian flair to the competition stage, and that has been the same in 2025, with visits to Oregon, Maryland, Tennessee, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Indiana, Florida, Virginia and New York in the plans. 

At each luau-themed event, competitors and guests dress in Hawaii-themed attire and compete for awards with a similar look and feel. At these events, everyone is “Ohana” or family.

Another special feature of each event is a 3-foot custom trophy known as the KA MAHALO Award. It is given to the team that exemplifies the spirit of the islands and displays above-and-beyond sportsmanship through the weekend.

What To Know About The Phoenix Convention Center

Aloha Grand Nationals is back in familiar territory at the Phoenix Convention Center in 2025, so teams will get to spend less time learning the venue and the neighborhood and more time perfecting their routines.

The Phoenix Convention Center is just a few miles from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and surrounded by thousands of hotel rooms. 

The venue is a regular host of sporting events, shows, concerts, performing arts, meetings, expos and more. It features more than 725,000 square feet of event space across three main buildings/halls.

Things To Do In Phoenix

Phoenix is the fifth-largest city in America, and the area always offers visitors new and exciting things to enjoy when there’s a break from the competition. Click HERE to learn more about Phoenix. 

The city enjoys more than 325 days of sunshine each year, so hopefully enjoying a sporting event or another outdoor activity is on the agenda for any time not spent in the convention center.  

That said, Phoenix and the surrounding areas are hotspots for MLB Spring Training activity, so it’s more than likely you’d be able to catch a game or even meet some players during your March visit.

The League by Varsity All Star

The League by Varsity All Star is the official ranking system for the sport of All Star cheerleading, changing the conversation from “Who won the weekend?” to “Who ranks at the top this season?”

Every team that competes at a Varsity All Star event this season will be included in The League by Varsity All Star.

Team rankings are determined by the points system displayed here. At each Varsity All Star event your team competes, your team will earn points based on the assigned event and placement point value.

At the end of the season, your six best Varsity All Star event scores will be used to calculate your final rank.

In total, 128 winners will be recognized from first to third place across each region. 

One champion will be crowned in each of the five regions across the eight eligible divisions and two League 6 conferences, meaning 42 championships will be awarded in total. Champions will win cash and prizes!
