National School Spirit Spotlight: Meet Thompson High School
Meet the Thomson High School spirit squads from Alabaster, Alabama!

Meet Thompson High School!
In the heart of Alabaster, Alabama — a small suburb just outside Birmingham — stands Thompson High School, a 7A powerhouse that still manages to feel like home. Known for bringing their game days to life through the energy of their cheer, band, and dance teams. This year, they’re taking those same traditions beyond the sidelines as they hit the stage at the National School Spirit Game Day Live Championship coming in as 3x Champions. Meet the squads you’ll be seeing this February:

From the Head Coach: The Value of NSSC
Being part of the National School Spirit Championship means the world to our program. At Thompson, Friday Night Lights are more than just a game—they’re a tradition, a community, and a showcase of the “Friday Night Trinity”: Football, Band, and Cheer. Warrior Stadium is electric—loud, energetic, and intimidating to our opponents—and we take pride in fueling that spirit every single week. To us, this competition is about bringing that same tenacity, passion, and energy from the sidelines to the competition floor, showing that the heart of Warrior Nation shines just as bright under the competition lights as it does on Friday nights.
-Richard Sutton, Head Cheerleading Coach
How Do You Incorporate Cheer, Band and Dance To Show School Spirit?
We love incorporating cheer, dance, and band into our traditions! At the end of every game, the band plays the Alma Mater, and everyone comes together to show their school pride. Another favorite tradition is when the band plays “Rain Dance.” The entire band, dance team, cheerleaders, and student body join in and dance to the beat, creating an incredible atmosphere!
-Addison Villeret, Senior Captain
Favorite Game Day Tradition:
One of our favorite game day traditions is including a scripture on the back of our run-through banner for the football team as a source of encouragement. We also lead the team onto the field with our THS flags flying high through the run-through, which always brings incredible energy and pride to start the game!
-Addison Villeret, Senior Captain

What Makes Thompson High School Special?
Our school is special because it proves that size doesn’t define connection. Even in a large environment, the way our students and staff support one another creates a true family atmosphere. Thompson High School is where tradition, excellence, and community come together to create something extraordinary. With outstanding academics, award-winning arts, championship athletics, and countless opportunities for student involvement, THS gives every student a place to shine. What sets Thompson apart is that it isn’t just a school—it’s a home where students are inspired to dream big, work hard, and leave a lasting legacy.
