Happy Throwback Thursday! If you love cheer history, then this blast from the past is for you:
1. #TBT to the very first UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship! The event took place at SeaWorld, featured high school teams from across the nation and included the biggest poms we’ve ever seen. And get this – Greenup County, the team pictured here, is still a top competitor. Last year, they earned their 15th winning title.

2. Don’t try this one at home! This photo, taken from an NCA camp in the 1950s, features a stunt which – thanks to today's safety standards – won’t be coming back anytime soon. Speaking of which, did you know that March is National Cheerleading Safety Month? Check out cheersafe.org for the latest information on cheerleading safety.

3. Check out this issue of Cheerleader, which was actually the spring catalog for Cheerleader® Supply Company, the precursor to Varsity Spirit Fashion. As much as we wanted to see the “Most Exciting Spirit Styles on the Market,” we will settle for this stylish pairing of saddle shoes and knee-high socks.

4. Now that’s what we call a Final Four! We have a feeling this college partner stunt is much more difficult than it looks.

5. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Kentucky is still known for its clean routines and classic uniform style. But, today’s team opts for a hair-do that’s a little less, well, crimped.

6. We love this classic pyramid from Clemson University. But look at those baggy uniforms! Cheer fashion has really transformed through the years to match the activity’s athleticism.

Remember, many of these stunts are illegal by today's safety standards. Never attempt a skill without guidance from a safety certified coach.
