With power and the poise, the Universal Dance Association (UDA) staff instructors come together for the first college demonstration of the summer every year at Texas State. Not just any dancer can grace the front line of such a powerful performance--this group is hand-selected and expected to deliver a show-stopping routine complete with fresh choreography.

This choreography isn't your every-day routine learned days in advance. UDA staff members were flown in from all over the country on Monday, July 11, to start their camp journey. The first step? Creating the demo choreography! The music is handed over as they arrive, and the brainstorming starts right away.

Each instructor is given a section to work on, and the product is different each year. Depending upon the music mix, the styles can vary from pom, to hip-hop, to heavy jazz. The teams heading to camp won't find out what will be performed in the routine until they see it live for the first time at the camp opening. Dance teams and coaches are always anxious to see what the staff performs. They know they'll be learning the exact-same routine, among others, during camp.
