2016-17 Spirit Squads

SFA has always made waves in the cheer and dance world, and it looks like the 2016-17 season will be no exception. The spirit program is five teams strong, including two mascots and a star-studded coaching staff. Led by coordinator TJ Maple and coaches Tennille Williams, Stefania Castro, Garrin Gosnell, and Feliss Goree, the teams are in very good hands. The coaching staff boasts multiple national titles, so expectations are high for sideline and competition performance.

Our goal this season and every season is to represent Stephen F. Austin State University at the national level by putting out the highest skills that our program can perform successfully, and hit clean routines. -- TJ Maple

Last April, at NCA & NDA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida, the program won the Division I All Girl Cheer division for the first time, and earned the Division I Hip Hop title. In total, the SFA program has claimed an impressive 15 cheer titles and 10 dance titles over the years. The Jacks are well-known for their longstanding history of standout talent - technique and quality is the key to that success.

We expect quality over quantity for all skill levels in our program. This includes stunting, tumbling, technical skills and tricks. --TJ Maple

With 56 returning veterans and 52 rookies, the team dynamic is beginning to form, and the future looks bright. The teams are also under the veteran leadership of four dance team captains and six cheer team captains heading into the fall. After watching the teams perform at camp, there is no doubt that we will see SFA as a dominant competitor in Daytona Beach again this season.
