There's more to game day than kickoffs, halftime, and nachos and the Bastrop cheerleaders and HoneyBears are making sure the student body and community know it. Today is the day the Bastrop Bears take on the Georgetown Eagles. The game doesn't officially begin until kick off tonight, but the school spirit was building early this morning.
The theme for game day is "wash away the eagles" and the student body dressed Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts and other luau gear to set the tone. Spirits were high as a wave of students filled the school ready to rally.

This is Bastrop game day.
8:00am
The cheerleaders and dancers are already in the gym for warm ups. There's a sea of Hawaiian gear bobbing around the wood floor, and despite the early morning call time the atmosphere is unusually upbeat.
8:40am
You hear the footsteps of students heading down the halls to the gym; in the distance the band is playing. As they draw nearer the drum cadence grows louder. Final plans are made, hurried huddles are completed and everyone moves into position. Game day has officially begun.

9:00am
The "wash away the eagles" pep rally is underway. The stands are full of lively students, and the gym floor is covered with cheerleaders, dancers, band members and the football team. The big questions on everyone's mind? Who will be taking home the BHS spirit stick. This coveted award is not handed out to just anyone...Only the loudest and most spirited class will earn the honor of spirit stick winner.

9:15am
The HoneyBears have performed and the cheerleaders have led the crowd. The band is rocking and the student body is ready to get low and limbo!

9:30am
After a few class yells, it's finally time to choose the who will head home with the spirit stick. The gym is filled with cheers, applause and anticipation - who was the of the spirit class? It looks like it's the JUNIORS with a three-peat! They celebrate with photos and high-fives, then join the rest of the student body for a parting rendition of the school song
10:00am
The pep rally is over, and the cheerleaders gather their belongings to head to the football locker room. It's tradition to decorate their lockers with posters and snacks before the big game.

AND THEN WE WAIT...CLASS, HOMEWORK, AND SCHOOL THEN IT'S GAME TIME!
