One of the most recent traditions and trends to adorn the sidelines on Friday nights is the color PINK! High schools across the nation are dressing to the nines in their favorite pink gear to celebrate and raise breast cancer awareness.

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt JV and varsity cheerleaders of Hyde Park, New York, took their spirit-raising responsibilities to the next level: Leading up to the "Pink Out FDR" football game at their school on October 7, the team went the extra mile and raised a total of $6,800 for breast cancer research.

Beginning their campaign in July, the FDR cheerleaders set up an account on a fundraising website and asked their friends and family to donate. The girls have also come up with other amazing ways to raise money for breast cancer awareness, including volunteering time at local events in exchange for donations and selling T-shirts for students to wear on game day, along with other fun pink items such as beads, poms, glow necklaces, and thunder sticks. They even hosted a bake sale on the night of the game to sell pink-themed goodies to the fans!

On October 16, the FDR cheerleaders will rally together to participate in a three-mile walk to benefit the American Cancer Society. Assistant coach Alexis Conte had this to say about her program, "The FDR coaches, the Pink Out Committee and I are extremely proud of the girls! We challenged them to raise $5,000 by the Making Strides walk on October 16, and they surpassed that by almost $2,000. We are so happy with their hard work and dedication to not only this cause, but to raising awareness for breast cancer research in their school and community."

Great job and keep up the great work ladies!
