Hunterdon Central Is On The Hunt For a Bid to NHSCC!

The 21 athletes on the Hunterdon Central Regional High School competition team have high hopes for a fresh start on the mat in 2016.
After winning a national title in 2015, Hunterdon Central's bid to repeat as champions fell just short this past February when the team went home with a second-place trophy. This weekend in Toms River, New Jersey, the squad is eyeing its first step in reclaiming its title as it competes for a bid to NHSCC at the UCA Northeast Championship.
The team practices every day after school and performs as much as possible in front of a crowd leading up to competition.
We focus on a new element of the routine each week so it makes it easier to perfect the entire routine," Varsity coach Lauren Del Rosso said. "Aside from practices, we have a lot of team bonding that brings us together."Our opening section is one of our favorite parts of the routine. It starts out with a single-based spinning skill to the top. From there, we move to team triple jumps into standing tucks and some double back handspring fulls.
"The strongest part of the routine is our partner stunts. We have a lot of versatile girls on the team who can step into some elite skills if asked. For regionals, we almost have an equal amount of bases in the air as we do tops!"
These skills aren't easy and hitting them in synch with a large team of over 20 girls is pretty impressive. Find out how the Red Devils performed under pressure when their full routine is posted on Saturday night!
