Meet Taylor, A Tennessee Cheerleader Who Bleeds Orange!
Meet Taylor Newsom, senior cheerleader at the University of Tennessee!
Leaving a program you love is hard. Especially if you've given your all like Taylor Newsom has at Tennessee. Her big orange pride shines bright and big things are in her future. 4th year University of Tennessee cheerleader and senior, opens up about her final days as a Volunteer… As my time as a Tennessee cheerleader is coming to end, I think back to the person I was when I stepped foot into the sports complex for my very first college cheerleading practice and realize how much this experience has impacted my life the past four years.
This program has molded me from an 18 year old freshman, hoping not to mess up on the fight song, to a senior about to graduate from college with the confidence to take on the world. This program has given me teammates that became lifelong best friends, a coach that is now like my second mom, and unforgettable memories that I will always cherish. All the ups and downs and the many lessons I learned throughout my journey as a Tennessee cheerleader will forever hold a special place in my heart.
The list of what I will miss about being a Tennessee cheerleader is endless. One thing I will miss most is being a part of the exhilarating game day experience on Rocky Top. Nothing will ever compare to the indescribable feeling of standing on Peyton Manning Pass, cheering to a sea of orange with a little girl looking up at you saying that she wants to be you one day, hearing the Pride of the South Land Marching Band play the infamous tune of "Rocky Top", and thousands of passionate Vol fans joining in as the Tennessee football team makes their way to Neyland stadium. I will miss getting to travel around the world with my best friends while representing the greatest university of all and enjoying many dining experiences, hotel sleepovers, and long bus rides filled with constant laughter.
To rookie cheerleaders; soak it all in. Every pep rally, 7am appearance, every hour of practice, study hall, and every single game. Don't take any of it for granted because it goes by way faster than you think. One day you won't be able to wear that Tennessee cheerleading uniform anymore so always wear it with big orange pride. Have a positive attitude especially when things get tough and make the best out of every situation. Never forget being a Vol means something, you are a part of something bigger than you. Give your all for Tennessee day in and day out, and you will truly have the best time of your life!
