Six Desert Elite Maverick Teams Compete At Spirit Sports!
Consistency brought them success and changes this year will bring them challenges, but it’s the kind of challenges you need to grow.
The Desert Elite Mavericks started their program in 1997 and have remained consistent with their small program of 65-110 athletes. Small but mighty, the ideals and friendly competitive attitude of the Mavericks have kept the teams in good standing at competitions; even up against larger gyms.
Amy Grey, program director and coach, gave us some insight to the Mavericks’ goals as they head into Spirit Sports: Duel in the Desert this weekend.
“The biggest goal is to hit zero at our home event and represent our Coachella Valley proudly and strongly. Two of the teams, Rogue and Renegades, are shooting for the new International Provisional Bids to The Summit!”
Six teams will compete in Palm Springs at Spirit Sports this weekend and taking the stage for the first time this year will be the Lil Mavs, a Tiny Prep team. The Renegades, once a strong Level 3 Coed team, will take on the challenge of leveling up and competing in the Level 4 division.
“They wanted the challenge despite knowing that it wasn't going to be easy,” Grey told us the week of the competition, “But they are getting stronger with every performance.”
We’re looking forward to watching the Desert Elite Mavericks take the stage in Palm Springs, California near their home in the desert. Watch them compete LIVE on Varsity TV both Saturday, February 3 and Sunday, February 4 in hopes hitting zero!
