NCA High School Nationals is quickly approaching as teams put the finishing touches on their routines.

One particularly spirited team is back this season and they’re biting at the heels of a national title.

Brandon High School out of Brandon, Mississippi fell just short of a national title last season at NCA High School Nationals after receiving second place. But this year, Senior and Captain Addyson Tutor says they have big goals and they are looking to come out on top.

Brandon High School's 2018 NCA High School Nationals Day 2 performance.

“It was an amazing opportunity to compete with the best of the best last season,” said Tutor. “Placing second was very rewarding, but it also gave us the mindset of what we can do better for this year to come back and be on top.”

Addyson Tutor started with the Brandon cheer program in the 7th grade and will be finishing up her 6th year with them this season as a senior.

Brandon High School will have two competition teams again this season, the Varsity team “Black” and the Junior Varsity team “Red.” These two teams are run by sponsors Jennifer O’Neal and Cassie Cothran. The two sponsors always assure that the teams are looking their best and are representing their school in the best way possible. Altogether, there are seven captains.

- Addyson Tutor

- Alex Hagan

- Alyse Bullock

- Hannah Garrett

- Jessie Bailey

- Julianne Deweese

- Michelle Wilson

The Brandon High School skills coaches are Will Emmons and Storm Chaffin. These coaches put countless hours into these two teams to ensure they perform to the best of their abilities.

“I think Will and Storm are the best coaches,” said Tutor. “They push us to be our best inside of cheer and outside of cheer."

"They never let us settle for less and push us to our greatest potential. Without them, Brandon cheer would not be the same.”

This season, the Bulldogs have higher goals in mind. They are focusing on technique and pushing their skills to the next level. “Everyone on the team puts in the extra work outside of practice,” explained Tutor, “so that we will be conditioned and ready to perform and execute the routine.”

Choreography camp for the Bulldogs took place back in mid-July. Their biggest goal for this competition season is to hit a solid zero deduction routine for every performance they have!

“This season you can expect Brandon to bring something different and creative to the mat.”

As of now, Tutor says the team is off to a great start. They have updated many of their game day skills, cheers and chants and are now working on perfecting their competition routine.

“The bond we have with each other makes it so easy to be compatible as a team and hold each other accountable.”

You can expect great things out of Brandon High School this season, so keep an eye out for them and be sure to watch the team take the mat at the 2019 NCA High School National Championship!
