Rock Canyon High School from Highlands Ranch, Colorado is no stranger to the bright lights and stage at the UCA & UDA Mile High Championship.

For 12 years now, the Jaguars have taken the stage at the championship to showcase their breathtaking routines and kick-start their season.

In 2017, RCHS brought home championship gold in the JV Pom & Freshman divisions. It’s been a few years since the Jags have snagged a title in the Varsity division, but they’ve been working harder than ever to see if they can make 2018 golden.

Rock Canyon is bringing three teams to Denver this weekend and you can tune in to Varsity TV to watch all three talented teams perform LIVE at the 2018 UCA & UDA Mile High Championship.

The Jaguar’s Head Coach, Christina Leone, said each of the teams has their own unique strengths this season that she hopes will help them succeed in their routines.

RCHS’s Freshman Pom team is full of energy and excitement and the Junior Varsity team is full of powerhouse athletes.

“This is the best JV team we've ever had,” added Leone. “Technically I think they rival most Varsity teams - they are so fun to watch in both Pom and Jazz!

If you forget your coffee on Saturday, tune in at 8:48 AM MT to watch RCHS JV and Freshman Pom teams kick-start the morning with two back to back fierce performances at UDA Mile High.

The Rock Canyon Varsity team is dancing a Contemporary Lyrical and Pom routine this weekend. Both styles are very different and their ability to both at such a high level is a true testament to their training and technique.

“It's early in the year so I think our strengths right now are making huge strides at every practice and applying ourselves. Another major strength this team is that they know how to have FUN and be goofy - it's a true joy to see them have a balance between FUN and hard work!”

The talented coaching staff at RCHS put together the choreography for JV’s Pom routine and they are so ready to show off their work to their world. “It stands out because it's just so advanced in every way - staging, creativity, visuals and technically advanced,” explained Leone.

Impressive staging is a theme that is consistent with all the RCHS teams and the Varsity’s Pom routine is no exception. “It full of surprise elements, seamless transitions and visuals,” added Leone. “A TRUE pom routine that isn't just technical elements!”

The Jaguars have all made personal connections to the routines and share and trust each other with their own story and reasons why the song or routine is special to them. These connections are something that will be very evident when you see them perform at Mile High.

The Varsity team’s emotional connection in their routine has deepened this season due to their connection to another local dance team.

Chloe, a member of the Cherry Creek High School Pom team is currently battling cancer and her cousin is a member of RCHS Varsity Pom.

“We are both inspired by Chloe from Cherry Creek and also rallying to support her cousin Macy, who is on our team, and their whole family. Lots of support, love and community during the tough times even between rival teams is really uplifting!”

You are sure to see the two teams showing love and support as they take the stage this weekend in Denver.

To RCHS, the UDA Mile High Championship is a mini national championship. The divisions are DEEP, full of talent and the stage is similar to some of the NDTC venues. Plus, this event showcases the talent in our state so it's an honor to be a part of it!

The Jaguars have 14 freshmen hitting the UDA floor this weekend and they are ready for the young athletes to shine on the big stage for the first time this season.

Be sure to tune in to Varsity TV on Saturday, November 10th to cheer on the Rock Canyon Jaguars at the 2018 UCA & UDA Mile High Championship!
