Shelton State Going For A Dozen
Shelton State Community College is shooting for title No. 12 this year at the 2019 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship.
The 11-Time national champions, Shelton State Community College, is getting in their last few practices before making the commute to Orlando, Florida, for the 2019 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship.
This season, the team is made up of 13 freshman and eight sophomores, with 12 members taking the college mat for the very first time. Shelton competes in the Open Coed Division and has dominated the mat for 11 consecutive years.
Head coach and Shelton State alumna Brittany Crook took over the team for the first time last year. The team left the floor last year after hitting a zero-deduction routine that left the fans and judges speechless. This season, the Bucs are working even harder to claim title No. 12!
“I cannot wait to see all of my athletes' hard work come full circle,” said Crook. “We’ve faced a lot of adversity, which I also feel has fully prepared them mentally for this defining moment.”

Year after year, the Bucs show up with impressive stunts that catch the attention of everyone who watches them take the floor. After Crook became the head coach last season, she never missed a beat in the transition. She truly believes that her years cheering at Shelton State prepared her for this moment.
“My college cheerleading career, especially my two years at Shelton, fully prepared me for this position," Crook said. “The fundamentals engraved in me during that time are still the same and that is what has made this program so special and the longevity of success so incredible."
The Bucs had incredible elite sequences, high flying baskets and strong pyramids to wrap up their two-and-a half-minute routine on the mat. Crook says the routine is a lot of fun to watch this year, and they can’t wait to show it off!
Shelton State Community College takes the mat on Saturday morning in the Semi-Final competition at 10:08 AM in Arena South. The 2019 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship will be FULL of exciting action to kick off the first competition of the new year!
