The Tale Of Two Teams: Flyers Allstarz

Anyone who has been paying attention to cheerleading for the past several years is bound to be familiar with the name Flyers Allstarz.

The program has been an absolute powerhouse on the Worlds stage, bringing home a handful of World Championship titles, as well as a multitude of Worlds medals.

They are certainly one of Canada’s top programs year after year, as they have shown themselves to be contenders nearly every time they take the mat.

This season, The FA Worlds program is off to a fantastic start, having already secured 5 Worlds bids. This weekend at Feel The Power East, two of their Level 5 Senior teams are coming in with very different storylines.

Shock, the International Open Large Coed Level 6 team from Flyers, is always a crowd favorite. Their routine always includes high-flying skills and memorable moments that keep the crowd buzzing.

The team has traditionally placed in the top 10 at The Cheerleading Worlds, peaking in 2016 with a bronze medal finish. So far this season, Shock has only been able to practice once every two weeks, so putting a routine together has been a challenge, but not an unwelcome one. Co-Owner of the program told us, “This year is a challenge, but we are excited to have more difficulty than ever in the routine!” Along with difficulty, a strong team bond has helped the team come together, despite their limited training time.

Fearless, the International Open Non-Tumbling team, is looking to create a reputation from scratch this season. The new Worlds division has created the opportunity for a whole new group of girls to be a part of the FA Worlds program.

While Flyers has always been known for their strong stunting skills, the Non-Tumbling division has come with new obstacles. Lanoue noted “Almost all of our athletes on the team have never been to Worlds, so there is a lot of mental prepping to do with them to make sure they [can handle] the pressure”. He also pointed out that there is a hunger with this team to prove that the Non-Tumbling division is legitimate.

He was pleased with how well the industry took to Fearless at their first competition, where they secured an At-Large bid. “We were able to gain the respect from other Worlds teams right away when many people weren’t sure about this division”. They’ll be looking to turn even more people into believers this weekend.

This weekend is a tale of two teams: One with a storied past and solid foundation to build upon, and one starting from ground zero and building from the ground up.

The journey of the two teams couldn’t be more different, and yet they have shared a common goal of taking the next step in their journey this weekend at Feel The Power East. In either situation, experience counts for everything, and both Shock and Fearless will be looking to gain as much of it as possible when they take the mat in Ontario.

With Flyers, you can always expect that they will bring the performance, the energy, and the sharp competitive attitude that dreams are made of. No matter when Flyers hit the mat, you know you’re always in for a good show.

Tune in to Varsity TV all weekend long to cheer on this prestigious program at Feel The Power East!
