As many of you remember from last year, the Go Be Great Award is an award given out at NCA All-Star Nationals when they see a program going above and beyond the call of cheerleading to make the world a better place. NCA doesn't give it out every year—only when they see a program who we feel surpasses the requirements.
Aside from winning their first NCA title last season and following up with their first Worlds title, you would think that Cheer Express must spend all of their time in the gym practicing their routine. But what you may not realize is that an even larger focus for them is the time and energy they donate to philanthropy projects, including raising money for St. Jude.
Since 2016, they have easily raised more money for St. Jude than any other all star program in the history of the program, raising over $84,000. They hold parent party fundraisers, spin cycle classes, sell chocolate bars, ham drives, dunking booths and participated in CHEERSPORT Friday Night Live last weekend, where Miss Silver raised almost $38,000.
Justin Carrier spoke with Head Coach, Kimberly Dickenson, on the phone this week. "I did not tell her about this award today but she said something that really rung true and reinforced why this program deserves the Go Be Great Award this season."
"All the fundraising puts a lot on our plate when we are trying to also be competitive. But we aren’t chasing the win. We are in this for the journey, for the experience, that’s what cheerleading is all about. These girls are my daughters, I love them and we love cheerleading. When you do what you love, you keep doing it no matter how tired and exhausted we are.” - Kimberl Dickenson
Congratulations to the 2019 Go Be Great Award Winners: Kimberly Dickenson and the entire Cheer Express program.
