Reigning Summit Champions Hit Zero At WSF

GymTyme All-Stars Storm came out with a bang today at the 2019 WSF All Star Cheer and Dance Championship to an impressive zero-deduction routine.

The ladies of GymTyme Storm are the reigning L4 Junior Small Summit Champions, so all eyes are on them as they work to defend their title.

“We just told them we have to start over, it’s a new year,” shared Coach Will Esteves. “Don’t let that hang over your head and worry you. Focus on being the best you can be and performing the best that you can, and the rest will fall into place.”

With a hit on Day 1, Esteves is proud of the way his team performed.

“I feel really good. I think they did really well. They performed everything we wanted them to do, they executed things really well with good technique.”

With only about 5 athletes on the mat from their Summit winning routine, and all new top girls, Storm is working to building up their confidence on the mat.

However, while the team may be new, you couldn’t tell from their performance today. Storm shined in their stunts and pyramids with clean technique and lots of showmanship.

Heading into Day 2, Esteves is challenging his team to keep their confidence up and improve on their tumbling timing.

Most cheerleaders and dancers join a team at a young age just looking for a hobby or an afterschool activity. But after years of practicing, conditioning, long game days, and competition weekends, these athletes look back on the hours spent with their teammates and realize that cheer and dance taught them a lot more than just the skills they learned on the mat.
