Southern Methodist University Cheer Takes on Game Day D1 at NCA!

The Southern Methodists University Mustangs are ready to show the world how they do game day. After not being able to compete at the 2020 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championship due to the global pandemic, they are excited to be hitting the floor for the 2021 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championship!

SMU has been attending NCA College Nationals since 2004 and the Mustangs have been led by their coaches Tiffany Fettinger and her assistant Nate Williams.

Over their years at the championship, Southern Methodists University has continued to place in the top among the best college spirit programs in the country. They are no stranger to the competition! The team received 2nd place in 2015 and earned back-to-back-to-back wins in 2016, 2017, and 2018 in the Intermediate Small Coed division.

In 2019 SMU placed 2nd in Game Day and this year their goal is to hit two perfect routines in Game Day D1 and head back to Dallas as NCA College National Champions.

"This team has the work ethic, as well as the dedication and ultimately wants to make their University proud," says Coach Tiffany Fettinger.

“Game Day is such a fun experience because it combines four programs into one routine to create a show of SMU Pride!” Fettinger said, “Our routine is made up of cheer, pom, our mascot, and band. It’s a collection of everyone’s talents and strengths.”

SMU will be competing in person and they are “Out of this world excited!” Since they were unable to compete in last year's competition, the team is prepared with grit and grace and cannot wait to show everyone what they have been working on.

Beyond SMU and cheerleading, Coach Fettinger added she is so proud to be their coach and is so excited to see where their future takes them.

Be sure to tune in to Varsity TV April 8-10 to cheer on the Mustangs as they compete for a national championship title at the 2021 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida!
