Texas State University has arrived in Orlando, Florida, ready to make an impact at the 2021 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship.

The Texas State University program will be taking the mat to compete in two divisions this weekend including All Girl Division IA and Division IA Game Day.

"With a season beginning with many unknowns, the program has become very tight-knit through the changes, adversity, and restrictions," explained Spirit Program Coordinator and Head Cheerleading Coach, Jocelyn Stephens. "We are excited to represent TXST and continue to overcome the challenges this season has presented as well as continue to raise the bar as a program heading to Nationals."

Stephens shared that Texas State's All Girl team is excited to push their abilities in stunts and pyramids this weekend as well as bring innovation and originality to their routine flow.

With all the limitations that this season brought to spirit programs around the nation, Texas State, like many others competing in the Game Day divisions, are excited for the opportunity to perform their traditions this weekend at the championship.

Because of the pandemic, this season the spirited Texas team cheered on their football and basketball teams from the stands so they are excited to put their game day skills and traditions on display in Division IA Game Day.

"Our Game Day Team performed their routine post-game of a home basketball game in February and after they hit, one of the freshmen came up to me and said “That was amazing and so much fun I can’t wait to do that again!!” it was in that moment I then realized it was the first time the freshman had performed in front of a crowd outside their parents this season. It warmed my heart and I became overwhelmed with gratitude that we have this opportunity."

In a normal season, Game Day at Texas State is an experience. From the proud alumni, the little girls in cheer uniforms, and the pride of representing TXST there is nothing but pure joy on the sidelines of Bobcat Stadium.

"From getting ready to showing up at the stadium/arena, and cheering till the final second; it is a community, a family, and one love," Stephens explained. "There is no greater feeling or memory than the game day experience to a college cheerleader whether that is your first game or upset victory it is an unmatched feeling."
