In honor of the 6th anniversary of the most prestigious end-of-season event for small gyms, here are five things you might not know about The D2 Summit!
This year marks the 6th anniversary of The D2 Summit. Over the years, thousands of the nation's best all star teams have made their way to Orlando, Florida to showcase their skills and traditions on stage with the hopes of taking home a championship title and banner.
In honor of the 6th anniversary of the most prestigious end-of-season event for small gyms, here are five things you might not know about The D2 Summit!
1. The D2 Summit Started In 2015
The first bids to The D2 Summit were awarded during the 2014-2015 season!
2. The First Championship Was In Tampa, Florida
In 2015, the first-ever D2 Summit was held in Tampa, Florida! In 2016, the championship outgrew its original location and found a new home at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
3. The D2 Summit Is For Small Gyms!
Varsity All Star created The D2 Summit Championship exclusively for small gyms with 125 athletes or less.
4. 46 Of The 50 States Are Represented At The D2 Summit
Who says cheerleading isn't America's favorite pastime? 46 of the 50 states were represented at The D2 Summit in 2019!
5. More Than 1,000 Teams Conquer The Climb Every Year
The D2 Summit might have started small, but as the years went on, the competition grew! Only 495 teams took part in the inaugural D2 Summit but in 2019, over 1,200 teams joined us in Orlando, Florida for their chance to conquer the climb.
