It looks like San Antonio will be the place to be early in the 2024-2025 cheerleading season, as the 2024 NCA South Texas Regional heads to the Alamo City to complete an exciting weekend of competition at the Freeman Coliseum.

A day after the Cheer Power San Antonio Halloween Challenge enjoys the spotlight, the National Cheerleaders Association will take center stage for the first of its nearly 20 events this season, and Varsity TV will be there to provide live coverage of the competition.

For more than 75 years, the National Cheerleaders Association has been focused on competition, camps, instruction, and philanthropy, all geared toward helping participants become the best cheerleaders, leaders, and people they can become.

The South Texas Regional will see school teams, mascots, and pep bands get the new season rolling, potentially with a pair of great events in one trip for some competitors. They’ll be aiming for a coveted early-season championship while eyeing a spot in the 2025 NCA High School National Championship in January.

Enjoy complete coverage of the event, which will include traditional school cheer teams, pep bands, and a game day category.

What To Know About The Freeman Coliseum

San Antonio has become a regular host of top-tier cheer events, and multiple venues in the city have opened their doors for memorable events in recent years.

This time, the Freeman Coliseum will welcome a pair of events on October 26 and 27 - the 2024 Cheer Power San Antonio Halloween Challenge and the NCA South Texas Regional -  respectively.

Along with a variety of events, the vast property that includes the Freeman Coliseum also is the home of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo and the San Antonio Spurs, who play in the Frost Bank Center.

The Coliseum itself, constructed in 1949, offers 32,000 square feet of space for events and 10,000 parking spaces for competitors, family, and friends. Its versatility allows for sporting events, concerts, trade shows, the circus, bull riding, and more.

The campus is just northeast of downtown San Antonio and also includes the Freeman Exhibition Hall. That provides another 170,000 square feet for additional events and activities.

For those who have some free time while in town for the cheer events, the area also will be hosting Spacecon (Oct. 25-27), while the Spurs welcome the Houston Rockets for a pair of opening-week games (Oct. 26 and Oct. 28).

If you only have time to sneak out for a bite to eat, there are hundreds of restaurants within three miles of the venue.
