The second event on the 2024-2025 Encore Championships schedule is the 2024 Encore Grand Nationals, which will take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, and it will give the best cheer AND dance teams the chance to shine in the Lone Star State.

All of the action will be broadcast live on Varsity TV.

As one of the competitive cheer and dance brands under the Varsity All Star umbrella, Encore puts on one- and two-day competitions across the country, with eight scheduled for the 2024-2025 season. 

The list of cities for this year includes College Park, Georgia; Houston; Philadelphia; Louisville, Kentucky; Concord, North Carolina; Las Vegas; Lexington, Kentucky; and Santa Clara, California.

Encore events are known for their signature red carpets, top-notch competition, high-level production, and over-the-top award ceremonies. 

The dance portion of the 2024 Encore Grand Nationals will be powered by The Groove Experience.

Groove supports dance halls and All Star events across the country to make sure All Star dancers enjoy the best possible events and experiences, too. All Groove events award bids to The Dance Summit and USASF Dance Worlds, so there’s a lot on the line!

What To Know About The George R. Brown Convention Center

The George R. Brown Convention Center is on the east side of downtown Houston and has been open since 1987. 

The facility took on some additional real estate in 2001 with the construction of a 1,200-room convention headquarters hotel and again in 2004 when more space was added (three exhibit halls and more meeting rooms) ahead of Super Bowl XXXVIII. 

With the additions, there’s now more than 1.8 million square feet of space. Check out the layout here.

Houston is the largest city in Texas, so while visitors have a lot of ground to cover, there won’t be a shortage of things to see and do when there’s some time to get away from the competition venue. 

Along with a convenient major airport, Houston offers countless ways to occupy a day or two, including sporting events, museums, galleries, outdoor spaces, rodeos, shopping, breweries, great food, and so much history.

Since the 2024 Encore Grand Nationals is being held so close to the heart of Houston, this information that’s specific to the downtown area should be a great help.

For sports fans heading to Houston, the NFL’s Houston Texans will be hosting the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 15 at noon Central. 

Unfortunately, the NBA’s Houston Rockets won’t be back in town until Dec. 19, but perhaps one of the many other events going on the weekend of Dec. 14-15 will fill the void.

The Varsity Cheer League by Varsity All Star

The Varsity Cheer League by Varsity All Star is the official ranking system for the sport of All Star cheerleading, changing the conversation from “Who won the weekend?” to “Who ranks at the top this season?”

Every team that competes at a Varsity All Star event this season will be included in The Varsity Cheer League.

Team rankings are determined by the points system displayed here. At each Varsity All Star event your team competes, your team will earn points based on the assigned event and placement point value.

At the end of the season, your six best Varsity All Star event scores will be used to calculate your final rank.

In total, 128 winners will be recognized from first to third place across each region. 

One champion will be crowned in each of the five regions across the eight eligible divisions and two League 6 conferences, meaning 42 championships will be awarded in total. Champions will win cash and prizes!
