What To Know About The Baton Rouge River Center
For almost four decades, the Raising Cane’s River Center has been welcoming hundreds of events each year to Louisiana’s capital city of Baton Rouge, and that now includes some of the region’s top young cheerleaders for the UCA Baton Rouge Regional.
The River Center, which opened in 1977 and was renovated in 1993, 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2011, is located in downtown Baton Rouge, steps away from the waters of the Mississippi River and surrounded by robust Cajun and Creole culture and cuisine.
The property includes three venues that can be transformed to host almost any type of event. There’s a convention center, theatre for performing arts and an arena.
The theater is a more intimate venue, with seating for 1,700, which is perfect for plays, orchestra performances and ballets.
The convention center includes a huge exhibition hall, that has even been transformed into a semi-permanent bowling facility for the months-long United States Bowling Congress Open (and Women’s) Championships, plus a grand ballroom, more than a dozen meetings rooms and concourse space for just about anything.
Together, the grand ballroom and exhibition hall offer more than 200,000 square feet of versatile space, plus the meeting rooms, concessions and a kitchen area. It’s perfect for conventions, trade shows and exhibitions.
When more space is needed, the arena features 10,000 seats and is ideal for concerts, graduations, sporting events, performances and more.
The area around the River Center is ever-changing, so even if you were there last year, there might be something new to see nearby or a great show or event rolling through the Red Stick.

Things To Do In Baton Rouge
As the capital of Louisiana, Baton Rouge usually is busy with all of the governmental things you’d expect, and the Louisiana State Capitol is a profound fixture in the city’s landscape.
Beyond all the formal business, the area is overflowing with a diverse population, amazing food and many things and activities that reflect the area’s mix of French, Spanish and Creole influence.
There are buildings and landmarks that have played significant roles in more than 300 years of history, while countless other places and attractions celebrate the region’s culture.
Visit a museum, gallery or sporting event, check out the sprawling campus of Louisiana State University or Southern University, stop by the zoo, take a boat ride through a swamp, look for some gators and other wildlife or just take a relaxing boat ride on the mighty Mississippi River.
Among the delicious things Louisiana is known for are boudin balls, gator tail, crawfish, fried catfish, dirty rice, muffuletta, king cake, red beans and rice, beignets, gumbo, shrimp and grits, jambalaya, etouffee, and po-boy sandwiches.
If there’s time to make the short trip to New Orleans, you can enjoy all of those things, but elevated to a whole other level.
