The Rise of The University of South Florida

The University of South Florida cheerleading program has been on a roll at the UCA/UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championship, and the Bulls are days away from seeing if they can extend their winning streak at the event to six years.

USF will send two teams across Florida’s Interstate 4 from the Tampa area on the west side of the state to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando – a coed squad and an all-girls team.

The 2026 UCA/UDA College Nationals will take place Jan. 16-18, and all of the action will be broadcast live on Varsity TV.

Can the Bulls continue their run of success on one of the biggest stages in competitive cheerleading?

Before we find out, lets take a look at some things to know about the University of South Florida cheer team:

2025 Cross-State Trip Was Memorable For South Florida Cheer Team

The South Florida Bulls made the most of their 2025 trip to Orlando for the UCA College Nationals, picking up another national title at the main event and then adding victories in two other coinciding events.

The team edged the University of Tennessee (96.7-96.0067) to win its first Division IA Game Day championship.

The success continued by taking advantage of the opportunity to compete for the first time in the ICU University World Cup Cheerleading Championships, where the Bulls collected the first Premier All Girl University World Cup title.

On the way to the win, the USF turned in the highest score of all teams from the United States – across all divisions and competitions – to also claim the USA Grand Championship.

About the only thing that didn’t go right for USF in 2025 was falling short of a third consecutive Division IA All Girl Game Day title at the UCA College Nationals. USF finished second behind UNLV (95.1-94.4).

The Bulls also were edged in the Division I Coed Cheer category, finishing 0.2 points behind Alabama (94.8-94.6).

All-Time University Of South Florida Victories At UCA College Nationals

The South Florida Bulls have been on an insane run since 2021 - seven wins at UCA College Nationals and nine major championships overall.

The two victories in 2024 marked the first time an all-girl team was able to win both categories in the same year.

In their 2024 quest to win four consecutive DIA Large Coed titles, the Bulls finished fourth. By winning in 2023, they had become just the second program (with Kentucky) to win three in a row.

Did You Know: The USF Coed Cheer Team Had A Long Hiatus

With as successful as the USF coed cheer team has been since 2021, it’s crazy to think about how many titles the squad could have if it never went on hiatus.

Wait, what?

That’s right, the coed team was dormant for 13 years, returning in 2016.

Settling back into the competitive environment took a minute, but after finishes of 12th (2017), eighth (2018), fourth (2019) and fifth (2020), the hardware has been piling up for the Bulls.
