The world of cheerleading is always evolving so it's crucial that we as athletes improve as well. Mastering new skills can be a long and frustrating battle so we've come up with a few tips to help you land that new tumbling pass sooner.
1. Fuel your body for success
Drink lots of water and make sure to eat a healthy balanced diet. Managing a healthy diet can be difficult during the hectic days leading up to the competition but it's crucial to your performance.
2. Perfect the basics
Strong basics become the building blocks that you will use to gain more difficult skills. For elite tumbling, perfect your layout before moving on to twisting skills. Video your skills and watch your technique to hone in on the pain points.
3. Drills get you skills
Repetition is key when it comes to gaining new skills. Work on various drills that help you learn body awareness and the technique needed for the skill. Each night before you head home from the gym, make it a goal to land your skill 5 times before cooling down.
4. Condition for strength and endurance
Cheerleading is very demanding on your body - mentally and physically. Work on increasing your strength and endurance through conditioning, weight lifting, and other training.
5. Believe you can and you're halfway there!
Don't let a rough practice get you down, even the best cheerleaders have off-days. A positive attitude will lead to positive performance.
